The Urban Farming Institute of Boston

The Urban Farming Institute of Boston is a non-profit 501c(3) organization whose mission is  to develop and promote urban farming as a Commercial sector that creates green collar jobs for residents; and to engage urban communities in building a healthier and more locally based food system.

UFI's farm sites host more than 600 visitors and volunteers annually. Programming includes the Farming Training Program, Volunteer Education Program, Workshops, Educational Tours, and more. Through our farm enterprise, we produce more than 15,000 lbs of food, serving local markets, farmers markets and restaurants in the Greater Boston Area.

Since our inception in 2012, UFI has used its expertise and resources to demonstrate how food can be a bridge across diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences to build better communities. Our urban farms utilize natural, organic and sustainable techniques that enhance the environment and improve health.

September 28, 2015 - Mayor Martin J. Walsh joined partners Historic Boston Inc., The Trust for Public Land, the Urban Farming Institute of Boston, North Bennet Street School, and the Mattapan community to celebrate start of the more than a $3 million historic renovation of the 18th century Fowler Clark Epstein Farm into a working urban farm, housing for farmers, and educational training center, under the auspices of the Urban Farming Institute.
